The Simplest Truth

As a student of the Bible I have learned at least one thing and that is, that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is simple, and for a very good reason; so that no one can misunderstand it. It can be found in its entirety in the verses of John 3:16 and 17: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

As an engineer for many years I learned an invaluable principle for living. We called it “KISS,” (Keep It Simple, Stupid.) Simple is the best way. It is the straight-line path, the way of the crow. It is the shortest route to our destination, the path of least resistance. “Simple,” is simply the best way. God knows this, that’s why His word, the Holy Bible, His revelation of Himself to us, His love letter to all humanity, His instruction book for life, can be boiled down into two simple words that are best illustrated in one of the simplest songs ever sung by the church. A song so simple a child can understand it; two words, “Trust” and “Obey.”
