The Day of The Lord

The Day of The Lord – Militant Homosexuality and The Destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah.

In the news this week, an attack on The Family Research Council in Washington DC by a 28 year old man from Virginia is almost certainly rooted in homosexual militancy over the Council’s stand on gay marriage. It is another in a series of such attacks that may succeed in sparking still others. It’s another sign of the times in which we live. In part the militants justify themselves by publicly accusing The Family Research Council and other opposition as being “Hate Organizations”. Publicly or privately, the battle lines are being drawn and, like it or not, we are being drawn into the battle. Eventually you will have to choose one side or another. For me the outward choice is simple.
A couple of weeks ago we were challenged to choose between “Chicago Values”, or Chick-Fil-A. Now we’re being pressed to choose between the concealed values of groups like the SPLC, or the stated values of The Family Research Council. Again, a simple choice for me, in the flesh, but I caution that the real battle in this is spiritual and as a Christian I want to be sure to align myself with the gospel and not the politics of men.
Clearly, as we, The Church, enter the third millennium, the stage is being set for the grand entrance of “The Man of Lawlessness” and we, The Church, must play a role in that process; a process predestined by God Himself. We must be prepared to assume our role and position in the coming battle, though I fear that, for the most part, we have not done so. I think that if The Church had properly prepared over the centuries, we would not be facing these choices today. But God has always known it would come to this. Certainly the time has come for each of us to “put on the whole armor of God” and seek His face in prayer, being careful that our hearts are pure. (God’s concern is for motive, not the action it precedes.)
Now, with the Sword of Truth and The Shield of Faith in hand, our duty is not to go confront the enemy on the protest line, unless God, Himself specifically calls you to do that. Our battle is on our knees, praying for the enemy, that the Holy Spirit will come and change their hearts. Be careful how you pray in battle. Amos warns; “Woe to you who desire The Day of The Lord…”, Amos 5:18-20. (If ever a prophet spoke to our nation at the proper time, Amos speaks to us today.)

But it’s easy to misinterpret the times. Many have done so before. ”No one knows the day or the time… “ Mat. 24:36.- But God the Father and He only by a-priori knowledge; because ”The Day“ of His wrath is not chronological, it’s conditional.
But I digress. The point of this article is, ”The Day of The Lord“, defined as the day of God’s wrath. The Bible is replete with illustrations and prophesies, but I want to focus on the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, (Gen. 18:16 – 19:29), because it addresses the issue of homosexual militancy as we see it around us in the present age.
I will, of course, be accused of ”Hate“ and ”homophobia“, (a much misused term), but the accusation is not true. I harbor no hatred for people of any persuasion, but I am opposed to their militancy, their tyranny, their demonstrated morality and the sin that holds them prisoner, and separates them from God.
The point of all this being that God did not destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because the city of Sodom was overrun by militant homosexuals. Their numbers and reign in Sodom were only a sign of the times; a condition of the condition that Sodom and Gomorrah were in. There were many other conditions that had been fulfilled, along with many other resulting sinful behaviors. The misunderstanding lies in ”cause“ and ”effect“. Homosexuality in Sodom was not the ”cause“ of the problem, just as it is not the cause of our problems. It was the ”effect“. The effect of ”wickedness“, the effect of the unrestrained growth of sin.
The reason God destroyed that place and those people is that, for Sodom and Gomorrah, ”The Cup of Man’s Iniquity“ had grown full. The Cup of Iniquity, defined as ”wickedness“ is the consistent, Biblical requirement for incurring God’s wrath. It was Adam’s ”wickedness“ that caused God to drive him from the Garden. Adam had purposed an intentional evil against God in his heart. It was Cain’s ”wickedness“ that caused God to curse the earth and mark him. It was the ”wickedness of men and angels alike that drove God to destroy the earth by flood. And now a prophesy of the future is illustrated for us in the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. God has shown us in this illustration that the sign of the times for us; the measure of the cup’s fullness, if you will, of man’s iniquity, or “wickedness”, is the rise of militant homosexuality.
God’s purpose in providing the illustration is that we will find understanding in His word and know how to properly respond when the time comes. In the Biblical story God sent angels to urge foolish, fallen Lot to separate himself and his family from the wickedness that surrounded them in Sodom. We need to understand how that relates to us today. How can we separate ourselves from the wickedness that surrounds us and still fulfill our role as Christians? I Look to Romans 1:32 – ”who, knowing the righteous judgment of God… , not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.“
Now, I hear you saying, ”But I’m not doing those things.“  The scripture adds, ”,,, but also approve… “  Careful where you step here. That’s a damning piece of scripture. Think carefully and long. What are you doing in your daily routine that might put you in a position of ”approval“? I urge you, in preparing yourself for the battle that is already upon us, to meditate on Romans 1:18-32, and gain a true assessment of your place in the ”approval“ process. This will not be easy, believe me. If you are honest with yourself and the Holy Spirit, you will find that you are implicated on many levels. Just think for a moment about your TV viewing habits, about ”entertainment“ in general. I know you’re turning away now, rationalizing and justifying your position, but I urge you not to. Think for a moment about what the entertainment industry has come to represent in our time. I’m not asking you to give up TV, or anything else. I’m asking you to be honest with yourself and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your heart. I’m asking you to show the measure of your love for Christ Jesus by being obedient to His voice in your life.
Read the scripture about Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis. Read it prayerfully and think about what God is saying to you. Think about how you should respond and urge other believers to do the same.  Think about what intentional action you can take to separate yourself from the wickedness that arouses God’s wrath?

Some suggestions:
Spend more time in serious prayer, (conversation with God).
Devote more time to the scriptures by spending less time in front of the TV or video games.
Be intentional in providing ministry to your community.
Show and demonstrate God’s goodness in opposition to evil in you community.
Oppose Gay Marriage or any tool Satan has devised to further weaken that institution.
Strengthen your own marriage, commit to strengthening it.
Work and minister to help others strengthen theirs.

Read and sign The Manhattan Charter.
Oppose militant homosexual leadership in the church and if your ”church“ has gone that way, in the same way that Lot left Sodom. LEAVE IT BEHIND, NOW, AND DON’T LOOK BACK!
